Manila Beer presents Cut&Paste @ 2nd Annual MANILA DESIGN WEEK

Coming up on Tuesday, August 10th, C&P rubs elbows at Asia’s best kept secret design festival – the 2nd annual Manila Design Week. MDW’s growing program boasts speakers worth listening to including Tara McPherson, along with our boys Alvin and Jackson Tan of Phunk Studio. They know how to advertise themselves too!

With the support of presenting sponsor, Manila Beer and Power Mac Center, Cut&Paste will be in the mix with a special live design exhibition of 2D and Motion Design. If you’re in Manila, come join us at 8PM at the Collective, located at 7274 Malugay St. in Makati City. Artwork, videos, and photos to come after the show!

COMPETITION LINEUP

The following competitions and competitors will be featured at Tuesday’s event:

2D DESIGN COMPETITION

Top professional designers face off in 15-minutes.

CHALLENGE: Working with creative briefs and themes to be shared on gameday, each designer adheres to the following rules:

• All work must be from scratch
• Physical artwork and everyday objects could be imported using a digital camera
• Additional fonts could be used

All competitors used Adobe CS4 Photoshop or Illustrator to create their designs.

JP DE LA CRUZ - Graphic Designer - JWT Sugar Rush - "Speak softly and carry a big Macbook"

HEINRITZ C. SALES - Graphic Designer - Team Manila - A graphic designer based in Manila doing mostly apparel design

RAMON F. VIZMONTE - Graphic/Web Designer - Freelance - Ramon has been designing professionally since 2005. Some of his works include Team Manila Studio's website and album packaging for local bands, Mayonnaise and Pitik. He also teaches part-time in CSB and SHiFT.

DAN MATUTINA - Designer / Creative Director - Twistedfork & Ideals - A designer/illustrator who loves science and designing for good. :)

CHRISTIAN SAN JOSE - Graphic Designer - Freelance - Christian San Jose is a 21-year old illustrator based in Pasig, Philippines. During his time as a Graphic Designer at Team Manila Graphic Design Studio in 2007, he collaborated on projects with Nike Philippines, The Coca-Cola Company, ABS-CBN Corporation, and OctoArts Films, among others. As an illustrator, he has amassed an incredible body of work that focuses on colorful imagery and playful characters. His client list includes Adobe Systems Inc., Cobra Starship, Forever the Sickest Kids, and Quiksilver Inc.

RANDELL CENTENO - Graphic Designer - Stray Interactive - Randell has honed his craft for the past 7 years working for various design agencies as well as collaborating with other top caliber artists in the industry. His inspiration comes from everyday objects. He loves fast cars and drives like crazy. He walks slowly but is never late (well at least he makes an effort). Graphic designer by day, lover boy in the afternoon and full time daddy at night to his baby boy Enzo.

DREW EUROPEO - Graphic Designer - Freelance

ERICKSON ENRIQUEZ - Graphic Designer - Freelance - Armed with experience of both the corporate and the freelance world, he generates concepts that later becomes a brand and trancends it into a website or any collateral that it’s involved in. When he’s not working, he takes a bath and lathers himself in different pigments while feasting on a myriad of typefaces and photographs for inspiration. As he closes his eyes, he illustrates his dream and turns the page to welcome a new day.

MOTION DESIGN COMPETITIONS inspired by Manila Beer and PowerMac Center

Top professional designers face off in a single 8-hour round to create 15-second motion videos.

CHALLENGE: Working with creative briefs and themes to be shared on gameday, each designer adheres to the following rules:

• All motion/video work must be from scratch
• Up to (4) four pre-made static assets are allowed
• Live action video is allowed
• Music or sound design is encouraged

All competitors used Adobe CS4 After Affects and/or Trapcode plugins to create their designs.

NELLE PAREDES - Graphic/Motion Designer - Freelance - Graphic Designer who resigned from her 3-year job as a Motion Graphics Artist in a TV Network. Now trying to explore the full potential of her creativity by taking a second degree in painting. Is currently happy doing freelance work in packaging design and video editing, but hopes to become a full-time artist one day and grow old with Ramon (if he agrees). Oh and she just discovered that she can make chicken ala kiev and baked ziti! And they taste good too (I think that's a requirement). Hehe.

EDRIE OCAMPO - VFX Artist- Freelance - Edrie Ocampo is a Visual Effects Director, Visual Effects Artist and TVC Director. His experience, expertise and critical eye ensures the quality of his work, from the technical side to the creative side of it. He has a wide range of projects with TVCs – from motion graphics, compositing to computer generated images.

Power Mac Center Competition

NICO PUERTOLLANO - COMPETITION WINNER!! - Creative Designer - 27+20 design boutique - Nico received his BFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His work has garnered awards from several competitions, including winning a drawing competition curated by SVA and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He fuses the traditional Filipino text of Alibata with the rugged flows of contemporary graffiti art. Nico returned to the Philippines in 2003. He started his stint in Manila as a freelance director and designer eventually started his own design company 27+20 design boutique with his wife Katwo Puertollano which focuses on creative visual communications.
